ThredUP

Thred Up 1

Are you an avid consumer who suddenly finds herself buried in all “your stuff”? I know I for one have the terrible, bad habit of buying things for the sake of buying things, and then never using it.  When I end up donating to Salvation Army a lot of my items still have tags.  I think to myself what a shame to have to get rid of perfectly new clothes.  I am a New Yorker so having a weekend tag sale outside my home is really not an option.  Not to mention, I’m either incredibly busy or incredibly lazy.  Then came ThredUp.  I’m not sure how I learned about it but I decided I’d give it a try once I did.  ThredUp markets itself as an online thrift shop/consignment shop, that will buy your gently used items and sell them online.  Everything on their website is second hand and in good condition.  Some even still have tags on them (glad to see I’m not the only one with this issue).  How it works is you sign up to their website and request a clean out kit. You then fill it up with your used (or new) items and they take care of the shipping costs, just drop off at your local USPS.

Any items not bought by ThredUp will be passed along to third party vendors or recycling partner to help off set their shipping costs.  In addition, you can also choose to donate toward a good cause.  Seemed like a win-win to me.  Your bag will look something like this:

It seemed easy enough.  I sent out my bag last week.  I’m still waiting to see what items they accept and what the payoff might be.  I’ll keep you posted 😉

I’m sure this might not be for everyone.  But it’s good to see all the different creative ways we can give, while getting back.  Not just in cash, but simply to good, worthwhile causes committed to positive change.
