Teacher Appreciation Day!

Teacher-Appreciation-Day_blog

Today – May 8th, 2018 is National Teacher Appreciation Day! Thank you to all the teachers that have help mold our minds and lives throughout the years.  As a class nerd, I have to admit, I still remember all my teachers.  They opened my eyes to a world outside of just my immediate neighborhood in the inner city and introduced me to the world of the arts and my personal favorite BOOKS! Needless to say, our teachers are definitely underappreciated and the work they do is priceless.  There’s no telling how often a teacher, a mentor, has influenced and changed the life of so many people.

So how do we demonstrate our appreciation to our teacher?

Apple

This year I was asked to be Class Parent again and I wanted to do something for our teacher that would include every student in the class.  I came across this lovely post on Pinterest from SoFestive.  I loved the framed word art idea, with all the students name.   I decided this would be a great, thoughtful gesture.  This is also the first year that our teacher has taught at our school, so I felt it was an extra special year for her.  I followed  the instructions on how to utilize the tagxedo website by following Theboyandme.co.uk blog.  I felt her instructions were very helpful and helped me navigate the site.  I printed the word art in card stock paper and bought a beautiful white frame at Michael’s, which happened to be 60%.. SCORE!

Marshalls

On a gift bag run to Marshall’s (favorite store EVER!) I came across the perfect card and a wonderful journal to also gift our teacher.  Marshall’s and I are so aligned… it knows exactly what I need ❤  In addition, I wanted to add another personal touch from each student.  I came across this cute printable from Kate & Macy, that was perfect for our class.  I printed the cards in card stock paper and distributed them to the class.  I instructed them to return the cards to me before May 8th so I could include it in our gift bag.  Once returned I tied a ribbon around them to keep them together (I have to work on my bow skills).

Cards

All together I must say I think the end product was quite thoughtful.  I find homemade, or at least, hand crafted gifts to be the best.  They are always unique and the thought process that goes into putting together the perfect gift, is the gift itself.  That someone has taken the time to think about you, to wonder what is most important to you and to package it all up in a manner that is meaningful and true to you.  The cost for putting this together was not much at all, but it was the time that was the most fun.  Going to different stores, working with different people to put it all together for our teacher.  After all, its the time that our teachers give that help us determine our futures.  Those few hours, across 3 days was well worth it.  And it took all of us, big and small hands, to put together.  I hope our teacher feels appreciated today.  We appreciate her every day but with the hustle and bustle of our lives, sometimes we forget to tell people how much they truly are appreciated.

ThredUP

Thred Up 1

Are you an avid consumer who suddenly finds herself buried in all “your stuff”? I know I for one have the terrible, bad habit of buying things for the sake of buying things, and then never using it.  When I end up donating to Salvation Army a lot of my items still have tags.  I think to myself what a shame to have to get rid of perfectly new clothes.  I am a New Yorker so having a weekend tag sale outside my home is really not an option.  Not to mention, I’m either incredibly busy or incredibly lazy.  Then came ThredUp.  I’m not sure how I learned about it but I decided I’d give it a try once I did.  ThredUp markets itself as an online thrift shop/consignment shop, that will buy your gently used items and sell them online.  Everything on their website is second hand and in good condition.  Some even still have tags on them (glad to see I’m not the only one with this issue).  How it works is you sign up to their website and request a clean out kit. You then fill it up with your used (or new) items and they take care of the shipping costs, just drop off at your local USPS.

Any items not bought by ThredUp will be passed along to third party vendors or recycling partner to help off set their shipping costs.  In addition, you can also choose to donate toward a good cause.  Seemed like a win-win to me.  Your bag will look something like this:

It seemed easy enough.  I sent out my bag last week.  I’m still waiting to see what items they accept and what the payoff might be.  I’ll keep you posted 😉

I’m sure this might not be for everyone.  But it’s good to see all the different creative ways we can give, while getting back.  Not just in cash, but simply to good, worthwhile causes committed to positive change.

Quench Lip Rescue = Life

I’m a sucker for freebies.  And I strategically time my make-up purchases when they offer free gifts with purchase.  It’s the best way to try out new products. I recently came across Tarte Cosmetics and tried their Quench Lip Rescue lip balm, which is also part of their Rainforest of the Sea Collection, and have fallen in love ♥ I am not a lipstick person but when I tried their nude shade, I was sold.  I ran to Sephora (because I hate paying shipping & handling) and picked up their nude lip balm.  I don’t leave home without.  It leaves your lips so moist and non-sticky, while giving your lips a  healthy, youthful glow.  It’s perfect for everyday wear. And if neutrals are your thing, you definitely need this product in your life.

Just a few of my favorite things 😉

If you’re not sold on the $19 price tag, try ordering their Limited-Edition Gym Bag Grab Essentials.  It’s currently on sale for $12 and it’s full of  goodies, you are sure to love.

Lunch Box Notes

I get it mom (or dad) you’re busy, exhausted… possibly delirious.  Your kid tells you about these awesome lunch box notes or drawings her classmates get from her uber talented parents.  You’re thinking your killin’ it at parenting because to-date, you haven’t forgotten your kids lunch.  But now you feel like the worst parent ever.  Pinterest + Hallmark to the rescue!  Just download, print and cut these adorable lunch box notes (preferably on card stock paper), use some cute washi tape (for added cuteness) and bam! you’re back to killin’ it in parenting. Why reinvent the wheel when someone thought up this fabulous resource for you.  I recommend printing a few, and leaving it in the kitchen, along with your washi tape, so you never forget a lunch box note again.

Now if only I could get my hands on cute brown bags like these and pretend I drew them myself.

Simple DIY Halloween Treat Bags

treat-bags-top-view

Last year I found myself running through Target trying to find last minute Halloween goodie bags for my daughter’s school.  Needless to say, attempting to purchase and make Halloween treat bags 2 days before Halloween is not the best plan.  So I turned to my all mighty Pinterest for some last minute DIY ideas.  Long and behold, I ended up making some of the cutest Treat Bags ever!  Using brown paper bags, (which can be purchased at a dollar store) you can print a cute halloween message to customize your bag.  (For more information on how to print your paper bags visit Domestically Speaking.)

I also found these adorable halloween tags  to add a unique touch to each bag.

These lunch box joke notes are also a cute add-on.

Kindergarten Here We Come!!

k1-first-day-bulletin-board

I can’t believe its been a year and my little munchkin is going to be in Kindergarten!  I promised myself I’d be a lot more organized this year. The time really does go by fast, so like millions of moms and dads, we have to begin the year with the traditional “First Day of School” photograph.  This year I found a really great printable for Zoey’s First Day Photo and it’s free and editable! So you can save it in your files and use it for next year and make the necessary edits to reflect your child’s grade and interests.  I recommend printing on card stock paper or inserting the sheet into a frame.

A great way to also close out the year is to take a “Last Day of School” photo to document how much your child has grown in that school year.

Good Luck to all our kiddos beginning a new school year!

Back to School Season!

It’s that time of year again…Back to School!

And if you are anything like me, you have noted the date on your google calendar months ago and yet, somehow, still managed to let it sneak attack you.  Thank God for Pinterest! Thank God for crafty moms and graphic designers! I recently came across the website of Lia Griffith (thanks to Pinterest) and her page is chock-full of ah-mazing printables!  She also has some of the cutest printables for back to school.  I have already personalized my set for my daughter, Zoey, who will be starting Pre-K next week.

We’ve all seen the pictures, now you can document your child’s first day of school  utilizing Lia Griffith’s First Day of School signs.
